According to the Salt Lake Tribune, a 45-year-old man was killed after he exited a boundary gate at Canyons Resort in Park City. The unidentified snowboarder apparently left the resort at the top of the “9990” lift to access an area known as “Dutch Draw.”
A local sheriff tweeted that the man was extricated from the burial and that life-saving procedures were performed but the man did not survive. The Utah Avalanche Center and officials from the Canyons are apparently investigating the incident today.

The slide happened in a rocky area of Dutch Draw known as “Conehead,” that has been prone to avalanches in the past. There was another fatality in the same area in 2012.
The Utah Avalanche Center called the avalanche conditions “considerable” on the day of the slide. Remember, out of bounds backcountry at resorts is the backcountry. Check avalanche reports and have proper gear before leaving areas.
