As the brushfires continue to rage in Australia, with hundreds of homes and other infrastructure lost, reports released over the weekend tell a scary tale for the Australian ski and snowboard industry as well.
The Snowy Mountains are the center of winter sports in the country and officials with Selwyn Snow Resort say fire has ravaged the area. “Selwyn Snow Resort has suffered extensive damage as a result of the recent fires,” reads a statement on the website. “We are working closely with the National Parks and Wildlife Service and relevant agencies to arrange access to the resort, so we can fully assess the damage that has occurred.”
Just to the south Perisher Resort as well as Thredbo Valley are under serious threat from the fire that’s also having devastating effects on the greater Kosciuszko National Park.
