The Inertia

Kelly Slater knows waves very well. Better, it could be argued, than anyone else in the world. So if you’re paddling for a wave that you suspect you might be a little too deep for and you see him down the line paddling in, you’re probably too deep.

“Like an apex predator sensing the slightest opportunity,” wrote Surfers of Bali, “Kelly Slater was ready to pounce as soon as it was apparent the guy in the opening scene wasn’t going to make the section.”

It’s been a little flat over the last few days in Bali, so when a little bump showed up in the water on October 1, the few surfers lucky enough to be there during this strange time piled on.

“Main Peak was in good form before the tide started dropping and the focus shifted to the Racetrack in the early afternoon,” SOB continued. “By the time the tide bottomed out at around 4 pm, the best of it was over with just a handful of surfers left to salvage bits and pieces.”
