Nathan Florence has a pretty decent playground. It is, of course, the North Shore of Oahu. The Seven Mile Miracle is chock full of some of the best waves on the planet, and the jewel in the crown is Pipeline. Nathan Florence grew up there, playing in waves as a child that most full-grown adults might be a little wary of. Since he’s been doing it for so long, he’s basically got the run of the place — everyone knows him, everyone likes him, and he’s got the skill to back it all up. That doesn’t mean, however, that he doesn’t have to pay his taxes. And the reef takes its taxes in the form of flesh.
Now that Pipeline season is upon us, Nathan has been packing his days full of waves. Like a starving man at a buffet, he surfed all day previous to the day in the video above, then got up before the sun to surf all day again. And if the video is anything to go by, it’s all worth it.
