The Inertia

The great Lake Atlantic usually sets in around June for East Coast surfers. Winter has officially ended so no more nor’easters, and hurricane season hasn’t quite started. But this year was different. In New Jersey especially, home to one Ben Gravy, where a solid swell (and rain) blessed the right coast. “We’ve had a decent summer for surf so far, but this afternoon was a total surprise,” wrote Mr. Gravy. “We showed up to the beach in New Jersey and it was firing!! As far as surfing goes in the summer here, getting a 2-4ft swell is pretty surprising and to get barreled like this any time between June and July 4? I AM STOKED!!”
