Shaping your first surfboard is a wonderful experience. It can be, anyway, as long as you’ve got a bit of help and a bit of knowledge under your belt. The banter that can happen as foam dust is flying is often the best banter there is. Just a few people around a hunk of foam, trying to make something that makes our lives better. Which is exactly why Fresh Lines exists.
Fresh Lines is a show with shaper Matty Raynor. He’s a good guy, likable in all aspects, a dad, surfer, shaper, practicer of muay Thai, and a damn good conversationalist. Which makes him the perfect host for Fresh Lines, a new series that follows along as an assortment of very interesting people carve their first surfboards out of a hunk of foam.
Up first is Kimi Werner, who should need no introduction. She’s a United States National spearfishing champion, certified culinary chef, and an award-winning artist. Her life revolves around the sea, and a big part of her mission is to inspire people to get in the ocean, bring home dinner, and establish a connection with the environment in a way that many people seem to have lost somewhere along the way.
In the inaugural episode, Kimi shapes a surfboard for her baby boy, Buddy. And it looks as though Buddy is already very into it.
