Russell Bierke has made a name for himself by surfing some of the world’s craziest waves. He’s not a loud man — he’s the epitome of the phrase “speak softly and carry a big stick” — but his surfing shouts from the rooftops. When it comes to slabs, there’s no one who does it like Bierke, and in the slab world, no wave does it like Cape Solander.
The two-minute edit you see above was filmed on Bierke’s first two trips back to Ours after the Red Bull event in 2016. And although it’d been a while, it’s clear he hadn’t lost the knack for it.
