The Inertia

Have you ever looked at someone towing into a massive wave and thought, “hey, I could do that”? Well, you could do it. It might not end well, but you could. The towing part’s not the hard bit, though. Simply grab the rope and hang on. It’s once you let go of the rope where things get a little hairy, and if you’re not a surfer… well, they’re going to get hairy.

And get hairy they did when the Sickos crew decided to take one of their friends to Nazaré to surf the biggest wave in the world. The guy says that he’s only stood up on 15 waves in his life. “Are you excited that the sixteenth is going to be the world’s largest?” asks Jackson Lebsack.

Of course, the Sickos didn’t want their friend to die or anything, so they enlisted the help of David Langer, a man who surfs big waves very, very well. In the end, the guy did indeed get a wave. It was not, by any means, “the biggest wave in the world.” Although it was a little underwhelming, it’s still an interesting look at what might happen if a total newbie got into position for a big one — and it looks bad.
