The Inertia

The opening round of the Surf City El Salvador Pro got up and running this a.m. and is live right now. Conditions are, let’s just say, the opposite of clean. And while they seem to be improving, this morning has been all about the airs. With that in mind, it’s no surprise that Yago Dora took a win against the likes of Ethan Ewing and Jordy Smith.

The wave that won Yago the heat was a massive backhand punt where he got so inverted he was almost upside-down midway through the rotation. He wasn’t upside-down by the time he landed though, sticking the air and riding out to a well-deserved 9.00 (for a one-maneuver wave, no less). Joe Turpel, in perhaps hyperbole, perhaps not, called it “the best air of the season.” Do you agree?
