The Inertia

With surfing like this, it’s hard to believe that Griffin Colapinto was knocked out in the elimination rounds of the Oi Rio Pro, his worst result since Bells. But that’s just surfing, sometimes the waves come to you, and sometimes they don’t, and they certainly delivered for his competitor, Peruvian wildcard Miguel Tudela.

The result drops Griffin down to number four in the season rankings behind Italo Ferreira – something he’s sure to be fired up to change come J-Bay – but that didn’t stop Griffin from getting out there and having fun for the rest of his time in Brazil. Griffin’s the kind of surfer who is incredible to watch in competition, but even better to watch freesurfing when he can let loose and try crazy maneuvers without the pressure of producing a score. With clean, pumping surf, Griffin did just that.
