The Inertia

A surf trip to Indo comes with almost too many great waves to choose from. It’s an archipelago so rich and ripe with quality waves you’d be damned to try and cross any and every notable location off your itinerary in a single trip. Where does one even start? What’s the call if and when it’s firing? Are you risking FOMO by dropping anchor, only to learn that your all-time session here was topped by the day of days session there?

Life is tough, right?

Sam Piter is probably still flying high after a solid stay in Indo, navigating these same dilemmas. But from the looks of it he managed the whole thing pretty well, calling this “the best trip of (his) life.” That’s a pretty hefty honor for a person whose livelihood comes from riding waves in every corner of the planet. But consider that Piter just visited Indo during one uniquely epic season, scoring back-to-back swells at Desert Point, Lakey Peak, and Kandui — a trio of spots that dished out a fair share of viral highlights this season.
