The Inertia

It’s that time of year again, when surfers the world over begin to envy those on the U.S. East Coast. Being an East Coast surfer is tough. Lots of downtime waiting for waves, and when they do come, there’s often the downside of either freezing cold water temperatures, or hurricane-induced destruction.

Currently, the downside to the heaving, wind-groomed barrels you see in the video above from Rob Kelly is the latter. Fiona brought a great run of swell to the East Coast, but also brought destruction to Puerto Rico and Nova Scotia. Now, Hurricane Ian is battering Cuba, Florida, and the Carolinas. While it’s good to see solid waves, the cost is a high one. If you enjoyed the above video or maybe scored some hurricane swell yourself, consider donating to a relevant hurricane relief fund.
