The Inertia

I’m rarely in the camp of “just give me some surfing” when it comes to filmmaking and edits. But there are definitely times for nothing more than just incredible surfing and the right touch of music that’ll let you focus on…well, just some incredible surfing. Stories are good and all, but if he wanted to let ‘er rip and allow his fans to just see what he can do on a surfboard, with no distractions, Ryan Callinan has delivered with Beneath a Pear Tree.

The CT vet was one of the handful of surfers who rode the midseason cut roller coaster in 2022. After sitting out Pipe in January, Callinan took four straight 17ths, leaving him below the cut line in May and relegated to a run on the new-ish Challenger Series. From there, he mostly dominated the series and re-qualified for the 2023 CT by finishing second behind only Leo Fiorivanti. It signals a fresh start for Callinan and from the looks of his surfing in Behind a Pear Tree, the Australian is geared to make a dent in the CT rankings.
