Teahupo’o has made multiple headlines over the past few days. The massive flash flood that washed cars into the lagoon and Tom Lowe’s wipeout that led to a punctured lung and broken ribs were two of the scarier moments of the flurry. But the elixir was the massive swell that had a lot of photographers, videographers, and surfers booking last-minute flights to Tahiti.
This was a helluva swell to kick the season off at The End of the Road. How can we say that? Well, the swell peaked April 30 but crowds were already filling the Teahupo’o lineup days before as it all built. And the video above shows the action before that peak in the swell, making this more of a warm-up session for the big event. Still, it wasn’t a day for the faint of heart.
