The Inertia

The Artist, Roma, The Lighthouse, all modern films that opted to ditch color. Though the heyday of the black and white movie has long gone, every once in a while we get a new release that reminds us of the glory of monochrome.

Now we have KAM HWY, a new offering from Tucker Wooding on his YouTube channel. However, since it features John John Florence on the North Shore of Oahu, this one is more akin to the black and white cut of Mad Max than it is to Frances Ha.

JJF tears up high-contrast greyscale bombs to “War Pigs,” by Black Sabbath, and the results are striking. We see a lot of footage of JJF, especially since lately he’s been making his way around the world on the CT, but it’s refreshing to get a new visual perspective.
