The Inertia

With the Hawai’i winter season over, it’s high time for some best-of edits. YouTuber, foam-board charger and Pipeline veteran Jamie O’Brien recently decided to serve up a montage of his biggest and best waves from the entirety of this past winter.

However, before the fireworks can start, Jamie’s latest video kicks off with some house cleaning. O’Brien is first seen combing through the insane surfboard collection in his garage, looking to thin the herd in preparation for a new delivery from his shaper of 20 years, Wade Tokoro. Some tough decisions are made, but in the end he selects nine sacrifices to go back to the shaper. The hot pink craft are eventually going to be signed and resold to loyal JOB fans. Afterwards, Jamie finally gets his new quiver, all sprayed with a new iteration of his trademark neon color palette.

Then he gets to the real meat of the video. “We are going to put together a really sick edit for you,” explains Jamie. “It’s basically a montage for the last six months, all winter. It’s gonna be an epic one.”

He wasn’t lying. The following six minutes are non-stop barrels, heart-wrenching drops and at least one straight-up horrifying wipeout. The only problem is now it’s going to be even harder to wait for next winter.
