The megaswell to recently hit Sydney was one for the history books. An 18-foot swell, combined with a king tide, wreaked havoc on the New South Wales coastline at the beginning of April. Enormous waves pounded the shore, damaging iconic locales such as the Bondi Icebergs Swimming Club. Elsewhere, beaches were closed and citizens encouraged to stay out of the water.
However, as always, there was a dauntless cadre of surfers who did not heed that warning. That’s because that same swell also woke up a few nearby sleeping giants, one of which was the break known as Deadman’s.
Among the footage pouring in of the conditions at Deadman’s is a particularly riveting series from the YouTube channel Thrills Spillz. Episode one of “Deadman’s Rising” aired a few days ago, and part two just dropped.
“Deadman’s is one of the most insane slab breaks in Australia and must be seen to be believed,” explains the caption. “Even if you are not a fan of surfing you will not be disappointed. Chapter three will follow and feature more insane footage and carnage from throughout the day and also some bangers from Wednesday, April 2.”
