In 2023, The Uninvited hosted 60 women snowboarders at Tahoe’s Boreal Mountain. It was an undeniable marker of growth for Jess Kimura’s passion project that started as an independent film in 2018 dedicated to snowboarding’s most under-appreciated and underrepresented female rippers. In 2024, the invitational snowboarding event celebrated 70 women from 20 different countries and touted the largest prize purse in women’s snowboarding history ( from $40k in 2023 to $56k in 2024). Count 2025 as another step up: 75 snowboarders and an even larger prize purse now totaling $60k.
This year’s invitational moved to Woodward Park City, Utah and it’s clear that alongside including more athletes from around the world, The Uninvited is becoming a bigger and bigger draw for fans as well. There was a solid crowd on hand to watch a 15-year-old Jess Perlmutter take top honors and a $15,000 first prize check. The young athlete’s big win is a testament to what Kimura’s created, which is to give underrepresented athletes a platform the rest of the sport often fails to provide.
A year ago, Perlmutter was a wildcard invitee to the event who ripped a third place finish. Just this February, the teen was on the podium at Red Bull Heavy Metal in Boston. Earlier this month, she also celebrated a first place finish in the pro women’s category of Utah’s Bomb Hole Cup. Capping that run with another podium finish at The Uninvited makes this a pretty meteoric rise and a whirlwind run of podiums for an up-and-coming athlete.
