Ben Gravy is back, and he’s hitting the ground running. Last year, a gnarly bicep injury put the YouTuber on a hiatus from his regular novelty wave hunting adventures. After surgery and rehab, he was finally able to tentatively venture into the surf. Now, he’s finally back in the swing of things. Last we saw him, he was chasing massive Canadian river waves and dodging whirlpools with fellow YouTuber Jamie O’Brien. The latest adventure takes Gravy to the Sunshine State, where he hunted down what he’s calling the longest wave in Florida.
Unsurprisingly, the wave in question is the result of a bow wave, this time created by a local charter boat. Despite the modest nature of the wave in question, the seemingly everlasting one-foot peeler was more than enough to fuel Gravy’s indomitable stoke. In fact, the wave even got him waxing nostalgic, mid-way through the edit.
“I know I always talk about ‘keeping the dream alive’ and ‘the dream’ and ‘for the dream,’ but I do want to say this is what novelty surfing is all about,” explained Gravy. “Like, the ocean’s flat, it’s 100 degrees outside, no waves in sight, no waves on the forecast. You’re a surfer. What are you gonna do?”
The answer, of course, lies in a mix of optimism and ingenuity. “I’ve made it my lifelong mission to find the dream every day, regardless of the obstacles that stand in my way,” he continued. “Today, we’re lucky enough to be absolutely scoring off this ship that’s coming through the back bay, here, and just sending an absolute cresting point breaking dreamer our way. So I hope everyone’s enjoying the video. I just want to remind everyone, and I guess, inspire everyone, to get out there and chase it no matter, what ‘it’ is.”
