The Inertia

Tatiana Weston-Webb is having a baby. Last week, she broke the news on Instagram, and now she has provided fans an even more in-depth look at her experience – including the revelation that she competed as a wildcard in a Championship Tour event at nine weeks.

“We are so excited to share that we are expecting one of the best gifts God has given us! A baby girl,” wrote Weston-Webb in her initial announcement post. “Being a mother has always been a dream of mine, and entering this new chapter makes me feel stronger and more motivated than ever.”

The most recent vlog post to her YouTube channel, entitled Pregnancy Journey: Part 1, Weston-Webb started off with the very first moment she found out about the pregnancy – on a boat in the middle of the Mentawais. “I’m a person who likes to share everything and I already told Jesse,” she explained to the camera. “He is very emotional.”

From there, the video goes even deeper into some extremely personal moments for the couple, such as revealing the news to various friends and family. However, perhaps the most interesting footnote to the whole video is that it actually gives some interesting background to Weston-Webb’s wildcard entrance at the Saquarema CT stop. “I just competed in Saquarema pregnant,” she told her future viewers. “I’m nine weeks and five days pregnant. I was really crazy to compete pregnant and not tell people that I was pregnant, you know? I was wanting to tell everyone, but we’re waiting, obviously.”

Weston-Webb joins a growing number of surfers who have publicly competed while pregnant. Carissa Moore competed at the Olympic Games in Teahupo’o while three months pregnant, and then the Four Seasons Maldives Surfing Championship Trophy soon after. In March, Johanne Defay reached the quarterfinals of the Rio Pro while 16 weeks pregnant.
