The Inertia

In case you missed it, the South Shore of Oahu has seen a healthy run of swell this summer. No, it wasn’t quite the historic run of 2022, but it’s been one for the books, nonetheless. All the local favorites have been in play, from Canoes to Bowls and beyond. And Nyzjon Jefferson has been there to document most of it. He pieced this beautiful drone footage together for us, a tribute to the summer that was on the South Shore.

Jefferson has an awesome story, too. The drone pilot and budding cinematographer hails from San Diego. “I transferred from a community college in San Diego to the University of Hawaii to walk on and play football, but had a couple bad injuries,” he told me. “I’m now a senior at UH and set to graduate from the film program next spring.”

And as you can see, his work is so crisp. He’s pretty much made Waikiki his testing grounds, and filled his archives with some banger clips, to say the least.

“Most of my work is based on Oahu while I finish school,” he said, “but once I graduate, I plan to travel the world, filming surf and making films. This past summer brought a few solid swells, with the biggest one hitting in August. Right now, film is a passion for me and I just do it for fun.”

And we’re definitely happy to share that fun. Enjoy two minutes of Jefferson’s epic drone footage from a summer on the South Shore.
