Surf Park Management, a consulting group overseeing various projects in the surf park industry, has launched a survey for local surfers to gauge the viability of a potential park in the Victoria, B.C. area. According to Wavepool Mag, Canada’s only other surf parks are standing waves and Edmonton’s indoor World Waterpark.
“Surf Park Management is currently doing a feasibility study for a very experienced development group who also have a deep passion for the sport of surfing and want to bring a world-class surf park to southern Vancouver Island,” Skip Taylor, a partner in Surf Park Management, shared in a press release. “Although many surf parks around the world have proven to be great success stories, we are looking at a small market base of just under 400,000 people in Victoria and no data exists on surfing in Canada that would show demand levels, so our hope is to help show there is a strong desire for a surf park venue that would be supported by both local surfers as well as those who may travel to visit.”
Earlier this year, Hotel & Leisure Advisors published a report on the surf park industry and revealed that investments in new parks range between $40 million and $350 million, depending on the size and scale of each project. The report also showed an upcoming global shift. Europe has led the world in the introduction of surf parks since 2008 and is currently home to more parks than any other continent, with 23 of the world’s 53 wave pools as of June 2025 with 22 upcoming parks announced. North America, meanwhile, is home to 12 surf parks with a wave of 40 new pools coming.
“As new parks open in a wider range of geographic locations, operators are increasingly tailoring their offerings to reflect local culture and community preferences,” reads the press release. “Many are evolving into full-scale destinations by incorporating amenities such as lodging, surf schools, fitness and wellness centers, and family oriented activities. This broader approach is expected to draw a more diverse customer base, reinforcing surf parks as significant contributors to the global recreation and sports tourism market.”
