The Inertia

Ben Gravy can seemingly find a wave anywhere. A while ago, he somehow managed to find ridable waves in all 50 states. As if that wasn’t enough, he later proceeded to make a wave in pretty much his own backyard. This year, he’s been on a mission to surf every named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season. The list of alphabetically-named storms has finally reached Jerry, which took him to the shores of Connecticut, of all places.

“Hurricane Jerry has opened many doors to levels of the game that have not been sought after before, or previously experienced,” announced Gravy, in a tongue-in-cheek introduction. “Today, we turn the page on yet another chapter of novelty obscurity.”

The aforementioned quest to surf all 50 states actually gave Gravy a leg up on this excursion, as he’s one of the few surfers who can claim prior experience in surfing the state. “Most of you know that I surfed the 50 states. If you don’t know that, I did. Some of those states were heavy claims. They were edgy. They were tough to compete in. There was no one around. There were no other surfers. There was nothing happening. There was choppy windswell. Well, that’s exactly what happened to me when I surfed Connecticut. It was choppy, it was small, and I made it happen.”

For this second run at Connecticut surfing, Gravy and company journeyed deep into the Long Island Sound – a full two-hour drive from the actual ocean. There, they were shown the ropes by Jardar, a local who may in fact be the only other person to have ridden the wave in question, before venturing out into uncharted waters.

“This is unbelievable,” crowed Gravy afterwards. “Set of the day, probably set of the decade in Connecticut.”
