The Inertia

Jamie O’Brien just became a father, but the gravitational pull of surfing never lets up. The YouTuber and Pipeline specialist recently left the shores of Oahu for his first surf trip away from his newborn son.

“This is the first trip that I’m doing, leaving the whole family at home,” he explained at the top of the video posted to his YouTube channel, while standing next to his wife Tina Cohen and their son Kolohe, who was born in September.

So what force of nature was capable of dragging O’Brien away from his new family? The answer was Puerto Escondido, also known as the Mexican Pipeline. The spot has been a longtime favorite of O’Brien’s, most likely owing to the horrifyingly heavy slabs that make him feel right at home.

Though he may have taken some time off for parenting, JOB didn’t seem to miss a beat (aside from some logistical issues with both the delivery and operation of a few PWC they had sent over for the excursion). Step-offs, barrels and plenty of mouth-cam footage were on tap – and it was good to see the Pipe Master in his element.
