The Inertia

It’s been about three months since North America got its first Wavegarden Cove. The pool, called Atlantic Park, has been making headlines not only for the impressive-looking facilities, but also the fact that it counts Pharrell Williams among its main investors. So it was only a matter of time before Ben Gravy touched down on its shores to put the facility through its paces.

Wavegarden’s technology has long been seen abroad – with locations in Sao Paulo, Edinburgh, Sydney, Switzerland, and more. The technology’s entree into the U.S. took place in Virginia Beach, Virginia, at Atlantic Park, the brand-new, $350 million, Pharrell-backed surf park.

It was actually Gravy’s second visit to the facility, although he was a little early on the first one. “First time stepping on to Atlantic Park Surf and actually being allowed to surf, so we’ll see how this goes,” he joked on the way in. “Last time, they weren’t running waves.”

Once inside, Gravy surfed in his own unique way. Not content to stick to traditional craft, he went for sessions on not only his signature foam boards but also a finless alaia board.

Seems like the wave is working just fine.
