Skiers, snowboarders, and other lovers of the outdoors got some good news Wednesday as the Farmers’ Almanac announced it would not be shut down. The announcement came through the 208-year-old publication’s social media account, reversing a November 2025 announcement that its upcoming 2026 edition would be its last.

The reason for its closure wasn’t made clear when the Almanac made that announcement just before winter, but it turns out that financial hardship had brought an end to the long-range seasonal forecasts that had become a fixture in ski culture for generations. Tim Konrad, founder and publisher of the media company Unofficial Networks, says he learned of the announced closure and decided to purchase the Almanac.

“It felt wrong to stand by while an irreplaceable piece of our national heritage disappeared,” said Konrad. “The Farmers’ Almanac is more than just a book — it’s a living link to generations of knowledge and curiosity about the natural world. We have been working closely with the dedicated Farmers’ Almanac team to preserve the trusted content readers have relied on since 1818, including long-range weather forecasts, gardening wisdom, astronomical insights, practical advice, humor, and the publication’s distinctive voice.”

The Almanac had teased a “big announcement” just a week earlier after nearly three months of radio silence. “The winds have shifted,” wrote the brand, with no real hint that the upcoming news was a revival of its 208-year-old publication.

“An American tradition continues! For more than 200 years, the values and wisdom of the Farmers’ Almanac have been protected and nurtured by four owner-publishers. I am grateful to have found the right next custodian in Tim Konrad. I am also confident he will honor its heritage and carry it forward for generations to come,” said Peter Geiger, longtime publisher and Editor Emeritus of the Farmers’ Almanac.
