ELO has found his new gig. According to an announcement in the entertainment trade publication Variety, the former WSL head will be the new CEO of Robbins Research International, the corporate entity that houses 121 businesses owned by motivational speaker Tony Robbins.
Erik Logan’s tenure at the WSL was short, but memorable. As an Oklahoma native who didn’t start surfing until age 41, he was an unlikely choice to begin with. Once onboard, he instituted dramatic changes such as the mid-year cut and Final Five format (both of which were widely loathed). He was also known for his audience-facing leadership style, appearing on-camera and becoming a de-facto face of the organization. Then, with neither warning nor explanation, he was unceremoniously ousted.
Since then, he’s been largely quiet, apart from a few Substack posts that did little to explain what happened regarding his WSL exit. But this new announcement seems to indicate he landed on his feet.
“Great leadership isn’t about doing more — it’s about creating clarity, alignment, and momentum at scale,” said Robbins of Logan. “Erik brings the lived experience, discernment, and execution that enable us to grow our impact, strengthen our foundation, and touch even more lives.”
Robbins added that Logan will “unlock greater value across everything we are building, including our partnership with Paramount+ and the Tony Robbins Network. His experience working hand-in-hand with Oprah Winfrey, as the president of Harpo Productions, and the Oprah Winfrey Network during its growth years, brings valued insights into this new enterprise.”
There was little mention of how his experience running a professional surfing organization will aid in his efforts to lead a motivational speaking empire, but there will undoubtedly be some crossover.
