When Jamie O’Brien says it’s firing, you get your ass on a plane. This time, the call came from Southern California, where the Pipe Pro was in Newport Beach to herald opening day for The Wedge.
“First time at The Wedge,” explained Maddox Alotis in the most recent video from O’Brien’s YouTube channel. “[We] came straight from the snow, got a last minute call from Mr. Jamie O’Brien, who was like ‘Get down here, the Wedge is firing.’ It’s giant. So we’re just going straight into it.”
The session was also notable for the craft in use. The blades in use came from O’Brien’s newly minted soft-top company Fun Day. Previously, we’ve seen them put through their paces at the punishingly heavy Keiki shorebreak. Now, with a session at firing Wedge on the books as well, it’s safe to say that these things can put up with some heavy water.
