Brett Barley is building a hefty library of adventures around his home in the Outer Banks. The man is constantly outdoors, and he has established quite the presence as a documentarian of anything and everything when it comes to enjoying the ocean there. Last week, that routine led him into the Atlantic Ocean with a SeaDoo and some fishing gear, where he soon found himself in the middle of a school of sharks and Red Drum in a feeding frenzy.
The footage went viral, unsurprisingly. As Barley explained it to FOX News after clips from the frenzy started making the rounds online, it seems curiosity led him into the middle of the action. He’d planned to observe the whole thing from the sidelines.

“I expected to go in and film all the craziness from the side, but then they emerged underneath me. I wasn’t really prepared for that, but it was a pretty cool experience at the same time,” he told FOX News while laughing.
It’s fair to assume most everyday people who don’t spend much time in the ocean were shocked by the video just because the mention of sharks triggers fear and panic. Barley says he was more caught up in amazement.
“I wasn’t necessarily worried about getting hurt, but at the same it went from ‘Oh, this is really cool,’ to ‘Oh, this is kinda dangerous,'” he admitted, explaining that a life spent in heavy, big wave situations has taught him that panicking is never useful.
