There’s something about watching good surfers surf, right? That’s what our new series, SESSIONS, is all about. Just surfing. No BS – simply good ol’ fashioned ripping where we follow any given human that surfs well on one of their daily rituals to get in the water and let their shred flag fly. And that’s why Zeke Lau was perfect to join us for a segment. If you’ve ever met him, he’s pretty damn authentic. None of the BS. And of course he loves to surf. So we assigned Brendan Nagle to follow him, camera in hand, where they lassoed a bit of magic at Rocky Point on the North Shore during a late-season run of swell.
Now, conditions in Hawaiian terms were good that day. But in normal human terms (just us regular surfers), they were extremely solid. Zeke takes off on a couple of bombs and manhandles them with his lovely rail game that we all want to watch.
I’ve always admired Zeke’s surfing and am kinda bummed he’s not on tour anymore. I ran into him once after a practice session at the Surf Ranch in the Central California farmland, and he’s the same guy you see here. Easy to talk to, easy to be around, fun to watch surf. And right now, he’s living the best life possible: freesurfing and raising a daughter.
That’s why we were lucky to have him on one of our SESSIONS segments. In between dad life, bro came out and just tore the ocean apart.
So enjoy this cut of one of Hawaii’s most gifted, modern wave riders. And stay tuned for more SESSIONS: just surfing. None of the schtick. Because there’s nothing like a good, quick surf edit to inspire us to go get in the water. And that, truly, is what it’s all about.
