The Inertia

Nobody knows Cape Solander like Tim Bonython. The Sydney lensman has traveled around the world, documenting Earth’s most intense slabs, but he has a special relationship with “Ours.” This week, he proved that yet again with a new video entitled “Lords of the Slab.”

“A deep East Coast swell/storm system parked itself between Australia and New Zealand, sending pure energy straight into the NSW coastline,” described Bonython in the caption. “Over three heavy days, Cape Solander lit up with thick, dangerous east swell barrels — the kind that don’t just break… they detonate on impact.”

The edit features a bevy of chargers: Mike Stewart, Russell Bierke, Max McGuigan, Tom Myers, Kirk Flintoff, Richie Vass and Lex O’Connor. Together, they took on a wave that is notorious for its perils: thick slabs, piercing lips – all over a razor-sharp reef that leaves no room for error.

Afterwards, Bonython hit the road to nearby Shark Island – another notoriously unforgiving slab being taken on by some of the world’s best bodyboarders.

Check it all out in the video below.
