Liam Sahyoun is just getting started. The 17-year-old Moroccan big wave prodigy just dropped his debut surf film, entitled Wave Master – a breakneck recap of his epic Moroccan winter.
Liam is the son of famed Moroccan surfer Jérôme Sahyoun. Naturally, that pedigree led to him charging at an early age. At just 15 years old, he was already towing monster slabs with the likes of Garrett McNamara and Lucas “Chumbo” Chianca. Now, at 17, he’s stacking up highlight reels and making appearances in HBO’s surf docu-series, 100 Foot Wave.
Wave Master is Sahyoun’s first film, and boy is it an entrance. It’s beautifully shot, both in the water and out, and intersperses frenetic action with quieter moments on the road (although you’ll have to brush up on your French for the interviews). It’s an effort that seems like a harbinger of even greater things to come.
