The Inertia

This most recent south swell was historic. As the energy passed across the globe, every break it hit lit up. Teahupo’o went nuts. Ala Moana Bowls became a tube-fest. The Wedge exploded. Now, even after the energy has faded, the footage is still rolling in.

The latest comes from BEEFS TV. If you’ve been paying attention at all, you’ve no doubt already seen some of Beefs videos this year. However, the latest update to the channel is a little different.

Rather than Wedge madness, RC surfer shenanigans or Kalani Robb doing his thing, this entry documents the birth of a novelty wave. As he looks on, DOH bombs pummel Dana Point Harbor, blast over the rock wall and create some actually ridable ripples – so much so that an entire mini-lineup started to emerge. If you have a keen eye for Southern California coastal landmarks, you’ll notice the Beefs team filmed more than one harbor.

One way to measure this swell’s power? If waves can explode on to a 20-foot high man-made seawall, and the spray creates a wave on the other side, you know there’s some strength in this Southern Hemi pulse.
