A human-caused wildfire has bladed across central Utah. Among the affected areas are the Eagle Point Ski Resort and surrounding areas.
First reported Monday afternoon, the Cottonwood Fire began in Cottonwood Campground off State Route 153 in the Fishlake National Forest. As of Wednesday afternoon, it had burned over 56,613 acres and remained zero percent contained. The blaze has led to power outages, road closures, and mandatory evacuations for the surrounding areas. The exact origin of the fire is still under investigation, but fire officials have deemed it human caused.
Among the areas under evacuation orders is the nearby Eagle Point Resort. Located in the Tushar mountains, the ski area has operated since the 1970s and spans 650 acres of skiable terrain, with 43 trails served by five lifts. The surrounding areas also include cabins and summer homes – one of which was shown engulfed in flames in a video posted to social media.

“The safety of our guests, homeowners, employees, and community remains our highest priority,” wrote the resort in a press release. “Eagle Point Resort has fully complied with evacuation orders and is working closely with emergency management officials and responding agencies as the situation continues to evolve.” Guests with upcoming reservations were encouraged to contact the resort regarding rescheduling or canceling.
“We are incredibly grateful for the dedication and bravery of the men and women on the front lines of this emergency. Their efforts are making a tremendous difference, and our thoughts remain with everyone affected by the fire,” added Eagle Point owner Shane Gadbaw.
