“Pumping conditions” are in the eye of the beholder. Sure, for locals at top-tier breaks, they mean barrels, hacks, and broken boards. But to average Joes in the more wave-starved corners of the planet, four-foot can feel like firing Pipe.
And so it was for Texas surfers last week, after Tropical Storm Arthur made landfall. Though it didn’t make too much of a splash in the media, Arthur bore the distinction of being the first named storm of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season (a season Texas surfers are all about). It also allowed dedicated wave riders in the Lone Star State to to eke out some much-needed rides, as YouTuber Les Freese documented in an edit.
“Four-foot clean surf, green water, blue skies, and a jetty full of surfers,” wrote Freese in the caption. “Walked the rocks, drained every camera battery I had, then sent the drone up to capture the morning from above. Tropical Storm Arthur may have stirred things up, but Surfside delivered.”
Fair warning to core lords everywhere: these are regular guys doing some pretty regular surfing. But an all-time day is an all-time day, no matter what that means where you live. You might, however, consider muting the (possibly AI-generated) soundtrack that describes the session in hilariously exhaustive detail.
