Foiling can look effortless. Practitioners of the art nimbly glide a few feet above the water, building speed off riding downwind swell and carving circles around their more anchored counterparts. That can be the case during the Molokai2Oahu race, when conditions align for athletes. But this year, that didn’t happen. The wind did not cooperate, making for a slog-of-a-race for competitors.
The event is a brutal endurance race, regardless. Starting in Molokai, the race spans the Kaiwi Channel and finishes in Kaimana Beach on Oahu. The race attracts competitors from around the world who want to test their endurance on the over 40-mile course.
It’s a task for insane people. And one of those insane people was Zeke Lau.
The former Championship Tour competitor has been on a foil kick for a while, now, and has been documenting his progression on YouTube. The latest video from Lau covers the entire course of the 2026 M2O, and it makes your legs burn just watching.
“That was a super gnarly, brutal race,” summed up Lau afterwards. “I don’t know if I could call it a race, because it wasn’t much of one for me, but I’m just super stoked I finished.
“There’s so many points of that run where I just wanted to give up. It was so hard, so brutal, so mentally and physically challenging. My body’s breaking down and I just had to finish because I knew everyone was going to be here supporting me. I couldn’t give up on them.”
Lau finished 15th in his division. Nathan Florence also attempted the race, but according to the results, he didn’t finish.
