It seems like every week there’s a new crew at DSRT Surf. The Palm Desert wave pool is slated to open this summer and the approaching date has brought with it a relentless marketing push. Pros, freesurfers and YouTubers have been flocking to the chlorinated oasis and reporting back, with the latest offering coming from none other than Jamie O’Brien.
“Apparently it’s the best wave pool in the world,” announced JOB at the top of the video. “Zeke and Josh Kerr and all the guys have been working on these crazy air sections. Crazy slab barrel. We got the Funday team in the house. Everyone from Uriah, Maddox, Sage, Ryan, you name it.”
There was one more wrinkle to the strike mission, however – the entire crew was riding soft-tops. The decision made sense, as O’Brien himself is a purveyor of the craft with his brand Fun Day. However, he also made a case for why there may be some logic to the decision, besides just branding.
“I’m pretty confident about getting some sick barrels, but I want to kind of walk away from this like stomping the best air I’ve stomped in a while – on a soft-top,” he described as he waxed up one of the craft. “A lot of people are like, ‘Well, why don’t you ride your real board?’ because something is a little bit more challenging and a lot more fun when you ride soft tops.”
