The Basque Country and fall are quite the pair. Everything turns on, and France’s sandbars are no exception. That’s been highlighted by the Quiksilver Festival in recent years, which since 2023, has replaced the old Quik Pro France. What used to be an annual date with the world’s best surfers and the Championship Tour transformed into a 10-day wave-fueled party — music, surfing, and art taking over Capbreton, Hossegor, and Seignosse.
This year’s festival was gifted some great waves throughout the entire event, which produced solid freesurf sessions too.
“The sandbanks have been really well lined up, producing seriously hollow waves — some almost looking like slabs, even though it’s all beachbreak,” local filmmaker David Berthet told The Inertia this week.
The party didn’t stop at the end of the annual festival, though. Waves have been good enough to keep a number of people in town, but it’s the locals who have really continued to score. October 2, in particular, saw those sandbars working in Hossegor, and guys like Jérémy Florès, Michel Bourez, Marco Mignot, Leo Fioravanti, Justin Becret and Eimeo Czermak were all on hand to take advantage of it.
As Berthet said, there were moments when it looked like a proper slab.
