Back in 2005 we ran an essay contest, and although essay contests seem to be the norm these days, I was intrigued to see how people connected with our company mantra, which is simple: Life Is Better When You Surf. For me and everyone at Global Surf Industries, it covers everything that we appreciate and love about our lives. For me, surfing is much more than a passion.
Back in 2005, we had over 900 entries of 500 words or less. The judging was hard; every story was full of emotion. Surfing is so much more than a sport for so many people. I read all 900 entries and it is still one of the greatest honors of my life.
We decided to run the competition again to allow people another chance to share their story. (This can be done here: www.surfindustries.com/libwys.) The kicker is that the best story wins a sensational prize: a new board from our range every year for the next ten years! Entries need to be 150 words or less and the competition closes February 28th, 2011.
I know we will get way more than 900 entries this time round. I am looking forward to immersing myself in the stories from around the world once again. Once we sort through them all we will come back and share the top 20 or so with you. They will be amazing.
