The Inertia

Looking right at home in Maui, it’s kind of nice to take a moment to remember Clay Marzo the surfer, not Clay Marzo the reality show star. Granted, the What Happened to Clay Marzo series has offered intriguing insights to the embattled superstar’s abrupt fall from the top (or on the rise to the top) of the competitive circuit. However, whatever pundits identify as the “problem” — social anxiety, injuries, or whatever else they are going on about — after this edit, it’s apparent that the kid lives to surf, and surfs to live. Seriously, Clay has a knack for finding himself smack dab in the middle of a barrel. He’s making a wide bottom turn, and there we are watching, think it’s closing out, and then WHAM! he’s in there getting shacked.

The simple life is where Clay belongs. It’s where Clay is allowed to be, well, Clay.
