Who’s your pick for Titans of Mavericks champion? The 56 titans invited to compete in Round 1 of the Titans of Mavericks big wave surfing event, have been announced. Titans of Mavericks, the festival and new lifestyle brand from Northern California has an official competition window at Mavericks from January 1st – March 31st each season.
The list of elite big wave chargers selected for Titans of Mavericks’ Round 1 draw was announced on Monday, September 29th. In addition to the best Mavericks locals, an international lineup includes 2014 Mavericks champion Grant “Twiggy” Baker from South Africa, 2014 runner-up Shane Dorian from Hawai’i, Chilean legend Ramon Navarro, and Brazilian charger Carlos Burle.
Other notable nominations include 24-year-old Mavericks local, Colin Dwyer, and for the first time ever, two local women in the mix alongside the men.

Santa Cruz natives Savannah Shaughnessy and Sarah Gerhardt are the first women to be invited to the prestigious Titans of Mavericks competition. Savannah’s brother, Patrick Shaughnessy, in also in the draw.
“Maybe there will be the first brother-sister heat in the future? Probably not this year, but some day!” posted Savannah. “I’m excited to see all of the new, progressive changes unfold this season at Titans of Mavericks.” Sarah Gerhardt was the first female stand-up paddler to ride Mavericks, and also the first woman to tow-in.

Last week, Titans of Mavericks revealed their new brand logo and social media outlets for the future of Mavericks. The story behind the new name has deep-rooted meaning and significance that highlights the big wave riders who challenge Mavericks each year.
Titans of Mavericks is a surfing brand and event destination in Northern California. It is located approximately two miles from shore outside Pillar Point Harbor, in Half Moon Bay at the village of Princeton-by-the-Sea. Mavericks is a winter destination for some of the world’s best big wave surfers. Very few riders become big wave surfers; and of those, only a select few are willing to risk the hazardous, sometimes deadly, conditions at Mavericks.
The Titans of Mavericks event and festival is held each year when the North Pacific Ocean creates the biggest possible swell, bringing massive waves across the ocean for the world to see. Titans of Mavericks is the most revered action sporting event in North America, bringing risk, thrill seekers and skill to the national stage, along with this great event.
The competition window officially opens January 1st through March 31st each year.
