When Mia Glass decided to go for a swim at the beach a few weeks ago, she had no idea how wrong it was going to go.

On the afternoon of October 3rd, Glass, her husband Andrew, and their three-year-old daughter were spending an afternoon in Del Mar when the Poway mother took a dip. Within minutes, she found herself helplessly stuck in a rip, and was in way over her head. “Before you knew it, I was way out into the ocean,” she told NBC 7. “I was getting beaten down on by a huge wave. I knew I needed help.”

Waving to her husband and screaming for assistance, Mia was panicking. With no lifeguards in sight, Andrew knew he had to do something, so although he knew it was dangerous, he began swimming out to his wife. He didn’t stop until a mystery surfer paddled up next to him and told him he’d take care of it. “He just showed up out of the blue to my right, tapped my shoulder and said he was going to go get her,” Andrew recalled.

The surfer made his way out to Mia, positioned her on his surfboard, and paddled her in to shore. When Andrew rushed over to make sure his wife was alright, he wanted to thank her rescuer. But he had disappeared as suddenly as he came to her rescue. Now Mia and her husband want to find him.  “I need to meet this person,” Mia said. “I need to look him in the eyes and say, ‘Thank you so much.’”

The family even wants to donate to the charity of the surfer’s choice, should they find him. If you know who the mystery surfer is, let us know in the comments section below.
