Ian Walsh couldn’t have been raised in a more appropriate place to charge waves of this caliber. His Maui upbringing naturally groomed him for these sorts of Indonesian conditions, and when faced with well overhead barrels, he fluently charges them head-on.
From knee-high to as big as the ocean can muster, Ian has the full bag of tricks. Funny enough, this is relative child’s play for him and, in watching, our need to be entertained as a surf audience is well satiated. He puts his versatility on display here, too – letting his small-wave (read: head-high waves) rail game open up his cool, calm and collected demeanor in the punishing stuff.
Looks like this southern hemisphere strike was just what the doctor ordered.
