Editor’s Note: Spot Snapshot is a series that highlights an image and explains what you’d never know by simply looking at it. As the cliché goes, “a picture is worth 1000 words.” Here, a featured photographer brings you both.

A cold but beautiful dawn in Landes… It was another winter’s day that I traveled the coast, equipped with the usual: neoprene, housing, and my three favorite lenses — a 10 millimeter, along with my 50 and 300.
As I drove the long road in France, near Hossegor, I listened to “Tidal Waves” by Syberia.
After a few kilometers, I found this place. The tide and swell and subject came together in perfect harmony. It was truly perfect. At first light, there was total silence, with no one in the water — I myself wasn’t motivated to swim — and a beautiful white fog draped over the sea. I grabbed my 300, along with a Gore-Tex vest and tripod, stood up out of my car and walked. The rumbling waves became my soundtrack. An hour passed, and the sun finally appeared in whole. It was then that these beautiful waves took center stage. The mystical peacefulness soothed me. So with my 50 and 300 on a Nikon Reflex, I did the best to capture the moment.
