The Inertia

Building a two-billion dollar business (and the foundation of an entire industry) from dirt ain’t for the faint of heart. It’s more like a life’s work, and one that requires an exceptional confidence, commitment, and passion to see through.

“It’s like the early pirates. You find a way,” said former Quiksilver CEO Bob McKnight. “Otherwise you sink.”

We sat down with Bob McKnight to hear his take on how a successful entrepreneur and CEO keeps calm in the most challenging situations, which, strike any and every institution worth its salt. It’s how leaders respond to conflict that matter most. From graduating USC in 1976 without a clue to creating nearly 8,000 jobs at Quiksilver, Bob chose to follow his passions. Which had him piecing together board shorts in his van for years – committed to finding a way to keep his dream alive.

Whether he knew it or not, his persistence helped fortify a dream for millions of surfers, snowboarders, and skateboarders around the world. It even nudged a little dude from Cocoa Beach, Florida named Robert Kelly Slater along to something like 11-World Titles. And that singular ability to keep composure under fire is what makes all the difference.

We proudly present FLOWSTATE: Bob McKnight powered by our friends at Just Chill, who believe in the power of calm.
