The Inertia

“I love powder so much, I get excited and I don’t breathe; and that’s THE WORST thing you can do!” Gotta love everything about George Jedenhoff. First and foremost, he is 97 years old. Then there is that small thing about him still skiing at that aforementioned age of 97…

And he actually skis! We’re not talking about a couple creaky turns or side-slipping the greens towards the bottom — we’re talking about top-down runs with a full blown passion for powder. That chest-beating Wasatch local has already seen more of Little Cottonwood Canyon’s best than we might ever dream of.

Utah-3

Skiing since he was 49 (1960!), he keeps on truckin’ by adhering to the same exercise everyday, moderation, and, most of all, getting out there whenever he is able to. While he swears by Alta and Snowbird, his travels have taken him to South America, Australia, Switzerland, Italy, France, Germany, Austria, and a handful more regions you’re likely to have on your bucket list.

The best part? He is out there regardless of forecast: “The thing about snow is that you gotta learn how to handle all kinds of snow. You can’t sit around and wait around for ideal conditions and moan about the fact that the snow isn’t good. Learn how to handle every kind of snow and then you can enjoy!”

He may not be saying it in such a direct manner, but I think we youngins should all take this as a plea or encouragement to stop our bitchin’.

Dude does it right. He and his crew, the Wild Old Bunch, do it right — and I’ll gladly follow in his tracks if I’m half as healthy as this man is come that age.
