Peru isn’t exactly number one on the list for surfers when they think of going on a surf trip. It’s on the list, for sure, but it’s probably somewhere in the middle. But out of anywhere in Peru–or the world, for that matter–the wave off a little fishing village in northwestern Peru should be right up there with all the best waves in the world.
Cabo Blanco is known to the rest of the world for its fishing. Massive marlin make the area their home, and anyone that enjoys a trophy fish know about the place. But back in the late ’70s, Gordo Barreda, the Godfather of Peruvian surfing, stumbled upon a perfect sand-bottom lefthander. Since then, the surfing world has been collectively blowing gaskets every time this wave turns on.
