The Inertia

The colors! I feel the colors! Seriously, though, how trippy was surfing in the sixties and seventies.

Nowadays — and this is said with heavy heart for all those suffering from abuse, both past and present — you have your coke and your meth and your chemical cocktails that will jolt your body into a euphoric state of almost ethereal qualities before short-circuiting your heart as it attempts to clean out all those unnatural lab creations. But back then? You had your coke and your meth (though not as widespread) and your much-less intense chemical cocktails. Sure. But you also had more prevalent prescribing to the ways of LCD and whatever else the CIA and FBI were testing on middle-class kids from suburbia who read a little too much Thoreau or got swept up in a couple existential proposals by Simone de Beauvoir, decided to listen to the FUCK CAPITALISM manifesto of Che Guevara, took every last cent their parents would “allowance,” and swore off the mainstream… maaa-aaannn.

Envision this funky/frightening utopia: the North Shore (probably/definitely/maybe not) run amok by dudes charging Pipe and Waimea and Sunset smack dab in the middle of their trip as their hallucinations were peaking. We know Jock Sutherland was among these Merry Pranksters. Who else? Was good ol’ Gerry Lopez stoned out of his mind as he got shacked to the next dimension?

Anyway, really digging how random this video is. Seriously random; the Vimeo description even says as much: “Footage from the past and present. Some old and some new, some purple and some blue.” And then you have this rather intense soundtrack to accompany the freaky edit.
