When Hayden Cox started making surfboards, he started off how a lot of shapers do. “When I was around 15 years old I snapped my favorite board. My thought process at the time was that if I couldn’t replace it and buy a new one, I’d make it instead,” he said on his website. “That year I spent an entire school holidays learning how to shape. The guys at the factory assumed I was on mandatory work experience… In hindsight, I guess I basically was.”
But Hayden was on course for becoming one of the most prolific shapers of a generation. And of all the shapes he’s designed, one stands out above the rest in terms of popularity: the Hypto Crypto. Made popular in large part due to Craig Anderson’s insane style on it, the Hypto became wildly successful–chances are good that you know someone that rides one. And chances are good that person has good things to say about it. Well, Haydenshapes just threw a spin on it: same shape, different fin setup.
Want to ride the Hypto as a quad? you got it. Want to be one of the weird people that rides a board with five fins? You got that, too. Want to ride it as a thruster. Yup.
