When ‘CT surfers are asked about their favorite stops on tour, Rio de Janeiro is seldom mentioned. And although she has had her moments of splendor, Rio historically delivers variable, less-than-stellar conditions, which are often overshadowed by the world-class breaks of, say, Fiji, Lower Trestles, and Pipeline. But from one piping barrel after another to Joel Parkinson’s epic dismount from a jet ski, Rio’s had a pretty kick-ass start. Here are a few highlights from day two of competition.
